great to see that some things will never change. we lose an american icon in MJ and the whole nation comes together to morn him and pay homeage to his greatness. then we are all brought together for the birthday of this great country. July 4th, and with all the marathons, food, and fireworks, no one would ever know we are still trying . to escape the worst recession in decades. I love this country!!
Loans
College loans are going to claim me if i don’t find away to make things better i really wish i could just hire an assistant to do everything for me and then i just pay the loan money!!
transition
Now that i’m done with college life feels so weird. i’m ready for the next step, but i haven’t taken it yet. or at least i’m in the process of taking it. sometimes i wish i could just sit around and be a waste all day, lol!
the return
Well wordpress Coolyhigh’s back and ready to get some serious blogging in!! when i first started here, it was for a class, but now i’m hoping i can blog for myself.
Sold to death!
watch?v=8xP-6xhauf4 sometimes i feel there are just waaay to many ads everywhere i look. there is no safe place, no fortress of solitude where a person can go to escape the money grubbing ways of this capitalistic society. radio bombards you with a ton of commercials, tv sold its soul long ago, and the internet is following the ame path towards the dark side. don’t get me wrong, “simple” merchants need some way to get information out about their goods and services, but enough is enough. i don’t need to hear, see, read, and click about the same product 24/7. if i haven’t bought it by now its either not for me, or too expensive!! what is one to do? as soon as a new way to reach the public is invented, someone is already trying to find a way to use it for advertising time. its a vicious cycle that has become self sustaining. what’s the next step? what does the future hold? when will the madness end? if any one out there has an answer to any of these questions feel free to comment. Oh, and the link is just a funny skit i seen on Mad TV it has nothing to do with anything, but i like the dark look it takes on the advertising industry. Enjoy!
The Power to Unite
Yesterday i was on my way to the movie theater, and i happened to be listening to the radio at the time. to my surprise i began hearing an exert from president elects speech given after the election. it was still as powerful as that night, i actually wished the station had played more of it. the local station had happened to play the exert is privately owned and operated. they are known to play different portions of “i have a Dream” during black history month, but i never expected them to do this. this does not mean i don’t like the idea, in fact i loved it. for one, it casts a positive light back on the radio. every time we hear about the radio nowadays i feel it is in a negative comparison to the ipod, CD players, or even satelite radio. however I’ve gained a new found respected for the terrestrial radio. Secondly, and more importantly, i was so proud to here such an uplifting message. it made me happy to know that i am an American. recently i don’t know if that has been the case. granted, Obama isn’t in office yet, but i truly believe his powerful words will convey powerful change for this country. we were at one point considered to be the best country in the world, and i think we can regain our place in the lime light.
We made history!!
its all over, the votes have been cast the numbers tallied, and the speeches given. in a overwhelming victory, Barack Obama has been swept into office. however, unlike the previous 43, our 44th president is a black man. i am so excited i can barely contain my emotion. every time i think about it i get shivers! a black man is the leader of the free world. given this momentous occurrence i that media played a huge part in delivering Obama to a welcoming country. in recent years, many have tried to generate emotion and concern in America’s youth, in an attempt to have them hit the polls in number never before seen. This election, the democratic party was able to do just that. many, like me, voted for the first time this year. it was incredible to see the great numbers of young voters who turned out to have there voices heard. some of this turn out was definitely due to the race issue, but more so i think we were all ready to take control of the future. the world is becoming a very scary place, and the U.S. is no longer the land i remember. maybe things are different because i understand more now that before, but this place seems to have taken a turn for the worse. i voted to show everyone that i want better. the youth of America voted to show the world we deserve better. i don’t know what Obama will be able to accomplish in his term, but i do know that he will bring about change. change is what we could all use a healthy dose of.
Turn me up!!
yea, so in class last week we watched that video about the music biz, well those of us who stuck around. anyway, i felt that it was really enlightening. i always knew it was crazy hard to get in and stay prevalent in the game, but the way they were talking about it made it seem impossible. i felt really bad about that chick, who’s dad was in the biz and stuff. she had a really good sound but wasn’t pretty enough to make any waves on the video seen. also i think that the higher ups are to blame for the new realization of hip hop’s death. anyone who pays attention to the rap scene knows that may respected artit have been claiming that hip hop is dead. and i agree. the mmusic that i feel in love with when i was a becoming a man, and the music that they play now is completely diiferent. i ean i bump to the new stuff, but there is def. a difference from what used to be called a classic and what is passing as a classic nowadays. if artists like tupac and big, big pun were still around, many of the new acts wouldn’t ven be here. let me know what you think.
Magazines R my friends
recently in class we were discussing which, if any of the old kinds of media we would still associate with.the choices were newspaper, books, and magazines. ok I’m lying we never had this discussion in class, but if we had, i would hands down pick magazines. they are by far the most “technologically advanced” of the three. well at least that’s how i feel about the whole situation. they are filled with tons of colorful pictures, short blurbs that you can read if you want, and actual articles if one is feeling ambitious. I’m sure the other two may offer the same kinds of things, but i really don’t feel like giving them a try. it anyone would like to set me straight, I’m all ears, or maybe all eye would be more appropriate.
Aftermath
In one of my classes we were talking about a company that was intending to by the naming rights for the new meadowlands stadium in New Jersey. for those who don’t know, the New York Giants, and the New York Jets will both play there home games here. anyway, it came out that the company, Allianz were once backers of Hitler and the Nazis. so, of course when this information was found out the deal between the satdium and the company was imediately over. however, the question was raised, that given how liberal our culture has gotten over the past ten years, and how important money has always been in this capitalist economy, how horrible would it have been to sell the naming rights to this company? i mean we are all aware that they no longer are affiliated with such radical groups, and have probably done a lot to seperate themselves from that evil history, so what is the big deal? i feel it would have been wrong, but i’m interested to see how others feel so get back to me.
